Technology Allows Honda Get Rare Materials from Recycling Batteries

We are increasingly using rechargeable batteries. With the increase of energy consumption of the processors in smartphones and tablets, was also necessary to develop batteries with higher capacity. The process developed jointly with Japan Metals & Chemicals (JMC) will collect at least 80% of the rare materials of nimh batteries. As the materials are extracted from the same purity and do not need to go through further treatment, Honda intends to use them in new batteries, so that manufacturing costs are lower.

The technique was successfully implemented in a production line of the JMC. Currently only electric car batteries will be recycled, but the industry has plans to expand the process to lithium batteries (Li-ion) used in our gadgets.
